The Benefits of Amber Glass Bottles for Homeopathic Cell Salts
Cell salts come in all sorts of packaging. You can find cell salts packaged in translucent single use plastic, cobalt blue glass bottles, and traditional amber glass bottles. Is there any difference between them? Yes!
Translucent plastic can be created to stop UV light with the use of titanium dioxide. Titanium dioxide is an additive that is also used as a food and cosmetic additive to give things a white colour. It is considered safe to use and ingest and only in large doses is it shown to have inflammatory and other potentially ill health effects. Plastic is used because it is cheap to manufacture and purchase. Although some plastic is recyclable, it cannot be recycled infinitely, unlike glass or metal. There is also concern about the effects of the degradation of plastic on wildlife and the environment over the long term. Single use plastics are a real concern in the health and beauty industries and at Jackson's, we didn't want to be part of the problem.
What about Cobalt blue glass bottles? While the blue bottle will block more light than a clear bottle, the blue is mainly decorative. It can provide merely adequate protection from light. Companies may choose to use cobalt glass over amber glass to have it stand out on the shelves.
Here at Jackson's we use traditional amber glass bottles to package our lactose free cell salts. Amber glass blocks almost all UV light which can degrade the cell salt potency (ie strength), thus making it the best choice for optimum protection against damaging UV light. Amber glass is also impermeable and inert, making it ideal for sensitive homeopathic remedies like tissue cell salts. Unlike plastics, there is no potential leaching of the product material into the salts. There is a reason that amber glass bottles are the preferred storage containers of homeopaths, naturopaths, and herbalists alike! In addition, if recycled properly, glass is able to be completely recycled into more glass and it takes less energy to break down than plastic.
So, although not the easy choice, we've used traditional amber glass bottles for our cell salts from the beginning to ensure our customers have the best quality cell tissue salt to try for their health. We encourage the proper recycling of the bottles so that our impact on the environment can be less.
